To edit a map legend

Click Map, Value Shading Options, Legend Options, then Use Compact Format. 

The legend will become more meaningful with graduated numbers and shades. 

To make it still more meaningful click on Map, Value Shading Options, Legend Options, then Subtitle. Fill in the type of data.  The legend becomes more meaningful.

To make the colour of the shading more meaningful click on Map, Value Shading Properties and then Color. 

Meaningful colours can be selected to enhance the interpretation of the data.
