Aggrey Memorial College (Tuition by Correspondence) Prospectus
Aggrey Memorial College

Context:
This is a prospectus for the Aggrey Memorial School in Malawi. This distributed to students who express an interest in studying through the school. It is typed and printed on double-sided A4 as is in stark contrast to glossy brochures commonly used by distance education institutions. Its content is nevertheless very interesting and offers a good introduction to this Malawian correspondence college.

We have received many letters like these.  Once they have passed their examinations and obtained better jobs many come to enrol for other courses.  Those with the MSCE or GCE (OL) enrol for A-Levels in order to enter university.  Why do they enrol for more or higher courses?  They want to safeguard their future.  If you have more than one certificate Diploma you stand a better chance of getting that better job.  We live in a period of high competition.  If you want to be the winner do as the clever ones are doing:  Enrol with AMS where you will get high quality education and pay very little.  The courses are divided into three groups viz:-

Group 1: This contains single subject courses most of which lead to the examination of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).  The advantage of taking these courses is that you can finish them
in a shorter time.  There are no special entry requirements to the examinations.  The standards are high but AMS students pass the exams easily.  Once you have passed you have the chance of obtaining a better job sooner.  Certificates of the RSA and LCCI are recognized all over the world especially here and there.

Group 11:  These are courses leading to examinations of professional bodies in UK and elsewhere.  After completing the courses you are awarded titles like Associate, Member or fellow.  These titles when placed a against a name grant the status of graduate and professional.  Applicants aged 20 and below are usually required to have A-Levels but older students do obtain exemptions.  For full details it is better
to write to the professional body itself as per address given below.

Group 111:  Contains academic courses GCE, JC, MSCE.  Both in public and private sectors the jobs and highest salaries are being reserved for persons with better education.  A humble education will keep you at the bottom of the ladder.

WHY AGGREY MEMORIAL SCHOOL FEES ARE VERY LOW:  As you go through the prospectus you will notice that our fees are very low compared with
what other private schools charge.  Because of this some people have assumed that AMS courses are not as good as those from overseas.  But people who have already studied with us all these twenty –three years have found that the contrary is the case.  Fees are generally based on costs of preparing the course.  Everything prepares overseas tends to be expensive such as brochures and study notes.  Most of them send lectures by air.  All these factors make their courses expensive.  AMS courses are prepared from the same text boos as are used overseas with additional material from African sources.  In fixing the fees we don’t say how much money we should be receiving form each student to recover all costs.  We know that some of you are unemployed, though some you have jobs. You pay school fees for you brothers, sisters or children and support your parents.  If we charged the same fees as your competitors abroad o even half of what they charge most of our people in Africa would be denied the opportunity to obtain better education and jobs.  Our ambitions is to help as many as possible not just a few.  You better study with AMS for the following reasons:-

(a)     The lectures are written in simple straight forward English by graduates of reputable universities and colleges.  Most students have passed their exams only by reading our lectures.  Textbooks are not necessary in most cases.  You are saved the inconvenience of buying and reading books some of them are very expensive and difficult to find in local shops.

(b)    So many students have passed the examinations because our lectures are comprehensive and we leave out nothing that is essential.  We use textbooks used
by reputable institutions in the UK and USA thereby ensuring that our students are on par with these abroad.

(c)     We charge the lowest fees in most cases.  Just compare for yourself.  The fees you see below are full course, not annual.  Even if the course lasts two or three
years you do not pay again as you do at residential and evening schools.

(d)    If by bad luck you fail to pass at the first attempt, AMS will give you further help for two or more attempts free of charge provided you follow our instructions and provided there are no changes in the syllabus of the examining body.

(e)     If you complete a vocational course like Bookkeeping, Clerical Duties, Management etc. you will receive advice on how to obtain a better job, promotion.  We are very keen to  see that you benefit from the tuition we give you.

(f)      We send lectures to the student so that he/she can read them at home, at the time that suits her or him.  The lectures become the student’s property to be read again if he or she likes.  We regularly revise our courses introducing new or additional lectures so as to match changes in syllabuses.

(g)     Some AMS lectures are regularly supplemented by Surpass revision notes and model answers on past examination papers which you may buy at low prices and thus improve you chances of passing with better grades.  Some students who are taking courses from overseas correspondence schools have told us our lectures are not just cheaper but even better.  Do you know that many parents with sons and daughters attending other schools come to us and obtain our lectures or surpass revision notes?  They do so to make sure their children pass the exams with the best grades.

Aggrey Memorial School has students in several other SADC countries and supplies its particulars to the International Centre of Distances Education, United Kingdom.
It is trusted and widely respected.

(i)   AMS was founded to carry out the philosophy of DR J.K. Aggrey who taught
that ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR AFRICA.  We offer the best educational chances at the lowest fees.  Your success means a lot to us  because
you are of Africa and so are we.  Thousands have benefited from our college;
what are you waiting for?  Why are you hesitating when others  rushing
towards Africa's own correspondence college?  Start today tomorrow never
comes.

Students are free to pay by Instalment or Cash.  If you complete the whole amount within three months it will be treated as cash.  If you complete the fee beyond Three months it will be treated as instalment payments.  Where the students wished to pay by instalment his or her first payment should be at least K250.00 if the total fee is less than K800.00, if the total fee is more than K500.00 initial payment is K300.  The more you pay the more lectures you get. A student may enrol for two or more courses at the same time but must pay not less than the minimum  instalment of each course.  Those who pay by Instalment should try to finish within a year because after that fees could be raised to the level currently applicable.

HOW TO PAY FEES:
Students within Blantyre may call at the office and pay the fee there.  Those outside Blantrye should send crossed postal orders.  Bank notes should always be sent in registered envelopes. Payment by cheque is also acceptable, but not post -dated ones.

STUDENTS OUTSIDE MALAWI:
Those in Zambia and Zimbabwe should go to the nearest Bank and buy Bankdrafts  in Malawi Kwacha.  No other African currency is convertible in Malawi except Rand.  Students outside Malawi should add MK100 on the fee shown in the prospectus.  This is for postage.  The Malawi Postal Services now charge us at least five times for parcels   sent abroad as it charges for those sent within Malawi.  This means if you are sending the money by draft, the extra is MK50.00 bank commission plus MK100.00 stamps.  Total MK150.00.  Those in South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho sent Rand Orders.  Dollar cheques or postal orders at present attract MK75.00 Bank Commission which must be added to the net fee.  Elsewhere seek advice at your bank.

HOW LONG DOES THE COURSE LAST?
Students enrol with AMS any time and the school does not impose time limits.  It is however advisable to take at least as much time on the course as you would take at full time educational Institutions preparing for the same course.  Haste is not speed.
