NADEOSA Aims

August 2nd, 1996, was an historic day for distance education in South Africa. Fifty eight organisations involved in distance education formed an association committed to promoting access to lifelong learning of high quality. The association aims to:

• Facilitate collaboration among distance education organizations in South Africa;
• Advocate awareness, understanding, and application of distance education amongst policy makers, practitioners, and learners;
• Promote research and evaluation of distance education and open learning in South Africa;
• Exert influence with regard to adequate policy (including financial support) for distance education;
• Advance the professional interests of distance education practitioners; and
• Promote and enhance quality assurance in distance education.

This web site has been designed specifically to support NADEOSA in the achievement of its aims. The site will not only provide people in South Africa and around the world with the latest information on the Association itself, but will also aim to become the best source on the World Wide Web for information on distance education practices and related developments in South Africa and - ultimately - around the world.

Code of Ethics

During 1998 the NADEOSA Council agreed to develop a code ethics which would be a stated set of standards to which member organisations would aspire. Secondly, NADEOSA's adoption of such a code would ensure that institutions who derive status by advertising themselves as members of NADEOSA will be expected to adhere to certain ethical standards. Although NADEOSA has no intension of serving as a whole watchdog for distance education, adherence by members to this code is a condition of membership.

Financial Support

In order to carry out many of the Association activities NADEOSA has not been able to rely on membership fees alone and extend sincere appreciation to the following organisations for their financial support:
